One of our neighbor/members forwarded us this update from Mike Sturm regarding the Eken Park Playground renovation. Essentially construction will not begin now until next Spring.
Hello Eken Park neighbors,
To begin, I want to thank everyone for their patience. A new playground is an exciting addition, and waiting an entire summer for work to begin is frustrating.
Unfortunately, Parks is experiencing significant equipment supply chain delays for all of our playground replacements this year. This is why work at Eken didn’t occur earlier in the fall, as originally stated. A bit of good news is the new Eken equipment arrived last week, but our installation contractor is behind schedule on the prior playground replacements due to similar equipment delays. With wet fall weather moving in, construction at the other locations will likely be slow going.
After discussing the backlog of work with our Operations staff and the contractor, it was determined the best course of action is to replace the Eken Park playground next spring. It was not an easy decision, but it avoids an open construction site in the park during the winter months, and the existing equipment remains available for the occasional warm days. The plan is to begin work as soon as the frost is out of the ground in the spring, 2022. I’ll send an update in March on the anticipated start date.
Thanks again, and please let me know if you have any questions.
Regards,
Mike.
